Kevin received his BA in Music from Westfield State College where he studied clarinet with Dr. Peter Demos. While at Westfield State, he studied saxophone with Ted Levine. He has also studied clarinet with George Baker. Kevin also took private lessons with Bill Wrzeien at the New England Conservatory.
In regards to musical influences, Kevin points to Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Eddie Daniels, Stanley Drucker, Pete Fountain, and two of his teachers, Dr. Peter Demos and George Baker.
While at Westfield State, Kevin performed with the Symphony Band, Jazz Band, Lab Jazz Band, Clarinet Quartet, and the Saxophone Quartet. He has also performed with local community bands, and a local brass big band, Jazz Attack.
He enjoys watching his students develop as musicians and loves giving lessons at Gerry’s Music shop because he feels surrounded by music.
One of his most embarrassing moments in music happened at college while he was cleaning his clarinet – his swab became stuck in the body! He had to take all the keys off the instrument and pick at the swab with a screwdriver (not recommended for students – please see your local Gerry’s Music repair technician if this happens to you!) until he was able to get the swab out.
